THEMATIC AREA
The project focuses on the analysis of skills and the design of policies that facilitate the school-to-work transition and reduce youth unemployment, thereby contributing to the long-term sustainability of society.
A significant emphasis is placed on the interaction between the progressive automation of work and the crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, examining how these phenomena influence job polarization and family decisions, and how they shape the labour market and career choices.
At the same time, the distribution of work and “informal care” within households is explored, highlighting how domestic care decisions are linked to norms, beliefs, and attitudes, as well as gender disparities in the labour market.
A crucial part of the analysis concerns skill mismatches in the labour market and the role of human capital in promoting labour and social mobility.
The project also investigates how remote working affects worker productivity and well-being, influencing the future organisation of work within firms and the optimal allocation of workers to tasks. Finally, migratory patterns and their interactions with the recent crisis are examined to understand how they affect migration decisions and the labour market.
