This research stream aims to develop models for ex-ante forecasting and ex-post evaluation of the impact of investments in infrastructure and services, including innovative green and digital solutions, as well as policies and strategies to enhance accessibility, resilience, sustainability, and attractiveness of territories and cities.

It contributes to the design and implementation of strategies and policies that strengthen territories, reduce inequalities between areas (such as inner areas under the National Strategy for Inner Areas – SNAI, Southern Italy, islands, peripheries, etc.), citizens, and businesses in terms of access to services and infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable development, and stimulate the competitiveness of disadvantaged areas and groups—for instance, through specific territorial intervention policies such as Special Economic Zones (SEZs)—and foster forms of sustainable tourism.

A decision support system (DSS) will be developed to provide guidance for selecting interventions for policymakers and key stakeholders.

Within this research stream, and through the activities of the Economic and Behavioral Research Center on Mobility – the Mobility Research Center (MRC), dedicated to researching and analyzing mobility issues across territories, the focus is on smart mobility solutions and sustainable planning strategies and their effects on living conditions, social well-being, productivity, and the environment at different territorial levels.

Mobility is indeed a key aspect of territorial connectivity and accessibility, and the MRC can contribute to evaluating and proposing innovative solutions in this sector.
