THEMATIC AREA
This research stream focuses on the definition and measurement of social sustainability, a key concept for understanding and improving the quality of life within communities.
The project contributes to the construction of the AMELIA data platform by providing data and indices on crucial elements such as social and political participation, cultural participation, and social cohesion. These elements are analyzed at both regional and sub-regional levels in Italy, offering a detailed and localized overview.
An important objective is to provide an assessment of inequalities in social sustainability across different Italian territories. To achieve this, the research stream is dedicated to the collection and harmonization of data from various sources, including the harmonization of two ISTAT surveys: the Household Budget Survey and the Multipurpose Survey on Families and Aspects of Daily Life.
Additionally, the project provides a preliminary evaluation of social sustainability inequalities across Italian regions and provinces. Part of this effort includes the proposal of a multidimensional Gini Index, allowing for a more complex and nuanced measurement of inequalities.
Among the main outputs are the creation of a database on social cohesion and the preparation of a report on social sustainability indices in Italy. These results provide valuable tools for better understanding and addressing social challenges, contributing to a more equitable and sustainable vision of Italian society.
